Beavercreek

The first week of exams has finally past, so it was time for some fishing! The weather hasn't been that good last week though, and yesterday evening we actually got some decent snow. Yeahhh buddy!
I can be short about the fishing; two hours at the creek gave me zero strikes, and Bambi was able to hook a small jack. The fish probably don't like the temperature drops...

Apparently there are some animals though which have forgotten the winter already and are preparing themselfs for the spring and summer. Sceneries like these make me fall in love with Sweden again and again.

Silver Arrows and Green Ladies

Silver Arrows
It has been a while now since I posted something, but since then a lot has happened!
You know the feeling when you are going on a vacation, and you don't really know where you are going to end up? That's the feeling I have every time we go out fishing in Sweden. Everything is new and everything is diffirent. And you never get tired of it!

Thursday, the 12th of april 2012, that was the day when it was supposed to happen. At 08:00 we left Forshaga for our fly fishing trip for to Grebbestad. Sea trout was the target fish, and according to sea trout experts the trouts would be swimming in knee-deep water, something that was hard for me to imagine in these cold water temperatures. Oh well, we'll see and hope that it's going to work out.

When we arrived at the water, I was a little surprised. Where is the coast, where are the beaches? All I see is some lakes. Wrong! It was a fjord, with some nice current, and sea trouts surfacing everywhere!
This is going to be good! Yeahhhhhh buddy!

About the first day I can be short; two strikes and no fish for me, tough as hell. A lot of classmates caught quite some good fish though, where Fredrik took a fish at 70cm. Congrats boy!

The second and final day. I was a bit pessimistic; is it going to be as tough as yesterday? I'm going to bring my spinning rod for sure, if they won't take my flies. We arrived at the spot where the other guys took most of the fish, and I headed over to the corner where there were some fish surfacing yesterday. At the spot, a fish rose instantly. Stay calm, don't go in to the water, make your cast in front of the fish and strip. BAM! FISH ON! After a short fight I could land my first sea trout, what a feeling! Have to thank Bambi for the Flammen fly he gave me and where I caught my fish on, thanks buddy! And I have to congratulate Piet, who finally caught his first fish of the year. Well deserved!
During the day I was able to catch two more fish, and lost some more as well. Two great days in an awesome environment! Those sea trouts haven't seen the last of me...

Enough said, the pictures will say more.

Green Ladies

After a good day of resting, sunday was going to be a day of firsts as well. Goal: catching pikes from the belly boat. We were allowed to use the belly boats from school, and boy did we find that out. Both of the airchambers were leaking air, bummer! Find the holes, fix it, fish. Ok, nu kör vi!

I'm not a skinny boy can we say, but those floating rings are pretty damn stabil! Want one of those for sure. Ok, how does the lake looks like. Shallow water, reeds everywhere, water temperature a lot warmer then last week. This is my thing, this is where I'm in my element. Tie a spinnerbait on and cast in to those reeds. It didn't take longer then ten minutes before the first pike was laying on my lap. Not a big fish, but full of eggs and in great shape. It didn't take long before Jocke and Piet caught there first fishes as well.
At the end of the day our result was nineteen pikes, and Jocke had the biggest one at about 90cm. Not a bad score for our first day on this lake.

Now it is going to be studying all the way, you guys will here from me soon.

White surprise.

After a good day of studying I really needed to take a decent break. What's a better way to fill that break up than doing that by fishing! Got the buddies together, ate some food, and we were on our way to my favourite little stream nearby. We were less then 2 minutes on location before it started to snow. Yes, snow in april. But that's not going to spoil our fun!

It was Jocke who hooked the first pike after only 5 minutes, his first pike of the spring season. Good job boy! Half an hour later it was Bambi's (Bo) turn, and he landed a small pike as well.
As soon as the weather got better, it was over with the action and we decided to call it a day.
Still no real spring weather, hoping for some 15+ degrees at the end of the week.

Snow and ice: Hej då!

When the days are getting longer and the temperature is rising, the heart of a fisherman starts beating faster! Finally, the long Swedish winter has ended and we can focus ourselves on the new fishing season. It has been a hard time for me as a Dutch guy, with these crazy low Scandinavian temperatures and no open water to cast my lures!

But here up north the people have found a way to entertain themselves in these harsh conditions: icefishing! At first I was a little sceptic, as sitting and waiting for a fish is normally not my kind of fishing. But it turned out to be a good way to satisfy my hunger for the spring.

Now, a few of the waters have been ice-free for a few weeks and we, the guys from my class and me, have been out doing some decent fishing a couple of times. Time for me to practise my fly fishing techniques and start chasing those green ladies again!

A few days of studying are on the planning now, but you can find me at the waterfront soon.

As we say in Holland, Strakke lijnen en kromme toppen! (tight lines and curved rods!)

Beautiful, but really cold!

First fish on the ice.

Good alternative for not fishing at all!
